Hi Everyone,
I haven't seen much messages on this newsgroup, as a matter of fact
the only one i've seen sofar was the one i wrote a little while back
with the title "is this newsgroup alive ?".
I've gotten one email from Steve in Minnesota, thanks Steve !, in
response to my message, but that's all....
Well...,
I'm Bart Derks, a 33 year old male living at the south-westcoast of
the Netherlands in the place Middelburg with 40.000 inhabitants.
At the moment i'm jobless, i've manned the computerhelpdesk at a small
factory of Philips and i did design/write software...
I have a very lovely girlfriend called Annemiek, we're living together
for 11 years now and her dad, a former collegue more or less
introduced us to eachother...
He had told her that i was such a nice collegue/guy for a while and so
she put an invitation to spend an evening together in his lunch-box
which he put in mine, something i'd never seen before, most previous
dads-inlaw had those suspicious looks when i arrived at the
frontdoor ;-)
But... the door's still open when i visit him so i assume evrything is
allright :)
My diabetes has been diagnosed 8 years back and since 4 years i also
have epilepsy. I have the seizures all in bed (thanx whatever your
name is in the big blue sky), but unfortunatly the epileptic seizures
are accompanied with memoryloss, once i even lost 1.5 years of memory
and i still can't recall much of that period..
This is also why i don't man the helpdesk anymore, learning to work
with 4-6 new softwareprogramms a year in order to forget them the next
year has become too difficult for me. So i'm going to attend a study
psychology at the open university and hope that the things i'll learn
there will still be worthy in 30-50 years time..
Anyone else here with the combination Diabetes/Epilepsy ?
Further I'm rather fond of working with my hands, i like to create
things from cloth, wood and metal. Quite recently i've started to
learn welding and since i love any sport that has to do with the wind
i want to construct a car to be able to landsail. I'm also fond of
normal sailing although that costs me lot of energy and i almost need
to carry a familypackage of biscuits to keep my BG-readings in a
normal range when i'm sailing. My brother just bought a secondhand
catamaran, iv'e sailed it the 30th may, but i still must get used to
the great speed, especially since the lake here's very crowded with
other boats and surfers.
I also am very fond of kiting and i have a little three-wheeled buggy,
steerable with the feet and by steering a powerkite with my hands
i'm able to chase mopeds along the dutch coasts. I don't have a lot of
money so i make the kites by myselve.
When there's no-wind i have another hobby, throwing boomerangs at
myselve and sometimes i'm able to catch'm although most of the times i
have to duck not to get hurt and sometimes i've got to climb a tree to
get the boomerang out of it.... Since the rangs aren't unbreakable and
the good ones aren't buyable in my neighbourhood i also make those by
myselve.
2-3 times a week i go swimming for 3 Km (~2miles) with a friend.
I love all kinds of music, some of the classical composers, jazz,
blues, rock, funk, reggae, Ska, hard-rock, newage, some country and a
lot of other music as long as it isn't the same commercial sh*t with
big boobed ladysingers in miniskirts. Music has to have a message in
my opinion and for the miniskirts i just need to go outdoors and look
around in, the otherwise also, beautiful Holland.
That's about it, please introduce yourselve here in this newsgroup and
let's try to get it more alive !
Best Wishes to all,
Bart Derks, Middelburg, the Netherlands
