A talent show for something like that would be great to enter!  Just
think of the prestige it would add to the piece.  Every thing like that
counts if you were ever to want to sell your work, I would think.
DM“  I just finished last night a Butterfly Bookmark for a lady at work who
  “is retiring. I thought I would give her something personal and seeing as
  “how she likes butterflies I thought that would work.  They are done
  “in size 10 thread, one half is violet the other yellow, done with a
  “dark purple border.
I know that pattern...from the Unique Bookmark leaflet with designs by
Sue Penrod.  The colors you picked sounds like it was just gorgeous!  I
have the leaflet and I've made the butterfly one too but made 5
butterflies.  Mine was with shaded pale yellow and shaded blue with a
black border and instead of using it as a bookmark I have it hanging on
my wall.
I collect bookmarks and patterns.  I've managed to get a good collection
of crocheted bookmark patterns so far but I'm always on the lookout.  I
also have patterns for counted cross stitch and plastic canvas 
bookmarks, I rarely do those but concentrate on the crocheted variety.  
The patterns I have are mostly from Leisure Arts leaflets.
