The autoupdate choices are

1. Off
2. Prompt to download and install
3. Download and prompt to install
4. Automatically download and install

Autoupdate doesn't automatically reboot your computer unless you have set
it to choice 4 (not to prompt before installing), and you are either not
logged in, or logged in as non-administrator.

It is described in the "How does automatic updates work" link on
the automatic updates dialog.

I have my computer set to 3.
