I never connect battery backups to the system because I HATE that feature.
I have lost more machines because of that crap than any other single cause.
Have you ever seen what happens to NT if the shutdown hangs at "saving
system files" and the battery runs out? Total and complete registry
corruption. It's better to just have the power fail than to have it fail
during a shutdown.
Besides, I don't care about graceful shutdowns, it's NTFS it can handle
that, I care about maximum uptime and those last few minutes may be all I
need to make it till the power comes back on.
