"Hibernation," I think, is an Intel (?and AMD) specific thing. 
At least that's the usage custom I've heard.

Mac PPC laptops only have deep suspend, and don't even have an internal
CMOS coin cell!!  I hear Intel Macs now (properly) implement real
Hibernate.

In reality, S3-state suspend on Intel is green enough for me, but it will
NOT hold state over weeks and weeks.
