The server supplies bug tracking (Bugzilla), wikis (MediaWiki), forums (phpBB), process monitoring (homegrown scripts), database server, web server, mail server, plus some other miscellaneous services, for a team of around 20 people. It's been running FreebSD 4.11 as the OS. It has been getting a little slow lately. The 233MHz Pentium II CPU and ~190MB of memory are starting to be a little on the light side. I'm replacing the kit with an old Compaq desktop that no one wanted because it cannot run current Windows stuff: 1GHz Pentium 4, 384MB memory. It has more than enough horse power for the task as this department server. I've been performance testing it here and I'm quite surprised how fast it is. Makes me wonder just how much money is wasted buying hardware to support these new bloated Microsoft operating systems? /m --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 106/2000 633/267 |
