        Thanks for your suggestions!  Sounds as if #3 may
be the most flexible/powerful one of the bunch,-- working
across DOS or Windows.
        You're right about Quicken being cheap.  Saw it
at Office Depot for $29.95, less $10 on a rebate (net $19.95)!
This is version 5.  They were out, but I plan to get the
upgrade at that price and see what's new and improved.
