Hey Rich,
Just my opinion, but have you checked out the Akai DR-8. It's an
Eight track version of their DR4d. Comes with an internal 1 gig hard
drive, 16 channel mixer for mixing your virtual tracks, SCSI compatible
so that you can link up to 7 of them together. Best part is, when you
change your sequencing software, you don't have to change your digital
recording base.
For example, I'm considering moving up to Studio Vision
3.0, which can translate digital audio into MIDI data. I can dump a
track from my hard disk recorder into the sequencer, edit it as if if
were MIDI data on a piano roll, then convert it back to digital audio.
It's about time somebody came up with a way to keep bad session singers
in tune.
The DR-8 sells for about the same price as the Fostex, ADAT,
DA-88, and the SONY model. If you have a DAT player, backups are a
breeze.
Good Luck!
