Well, during the time that the Underground Railway was in operation (for
runaway slaves) they did Log Cabins with black squares for the middle. These
were hung out on the clothesline to signify a safe place for slaves. Then
you can put yellow in the center also to signify the hearth (yellow and red
are quite common). Of course there is the ones like Susan wants where you
substitute a 4" block for the center. Then there are the twisted log cabins.
I first saw one of these when Brenda Burwell picked it for her Mini QBE win
last year. Very unusual and gorgeous when done! The one I saw that I did
for Julia is built like a traditional log cabin as far as log placement, but
on each row you change where you put your colored logs so they travel around
the block. Kinda looks like a snails trail when you are done. I saw it in
a magazine from just a couple of months ago and loved it. Wish I could
explain
it better. I know that there are other types of Log Cabins (like Courthouse
Steps), but can't explain them.
Later!,
