Well, I don't know where you get your information, but over here in all
the catalogues I've got Cat 3 is rare or not available, Cat 4 is more
readily available but the only one that is available from all suppliers
is Cat 5.

On the basis that networks are moving towards 100 MHz, I'd like to point
out that Cat 3 is only specified to 10 MHz, Cat 4 to 16 Mhz, while Cat 5
is specified to 100 MHz. Because of this I agree with Mike, and hence
find your assertation of it's demise inexplicable.
