MF> I ran our local JOTA event for the Scouts
MF> myself.. it was *originally*
MF> going to be a Venturer project.. oh well :/
DB> At least the job got done!
MF> And very well done, according to the leaders involved. That good that
MF> im already being asked for next year, to make it a regular camp...
MF>
Congratulations!
MF> Umm if youre not sure... In New Zealand, Scouts
MF> are from 10 1/2 to 14
MF> 1/5.. Venturers from 14 1/2 to 19... (I'm 17)
DB> Here, we have Cubs from 1st Grade - Tigers through
DB> Wolves and Bears to
DB> 11 years old WEBELOS. Boy Scouts run through 11 -
DB> 18 years old. There
DB> are Explorers and Varsity for the older boys.
MF>
MF> You have a very wide gap for Scouts. Wouldnt it be hard to find
MF> activities where you can integrate the age levels?
Sometimes there are problems. There is usually one patrol for new boys. The
older boys hold leadership positions and teach the younger boys. There are
Explorer and Varsity programs for the older boys to expand the interest as
the boys get older. We do have a problem with keeping the boys after they
start dating and drive cars (~16 years old).
