Most had not even been put on trial, or charged with any crime.

The emperor was allowed to retain his title, and was never charged,
although he was forced to relinquish his claim of being a living god.
A very small price to pay, all things considered.

The emperor's son, who is now emperor, has never relinquished
his own claim of being a living god.  Nor has he ever been asked
to do so.  Furthermore, the old traditions are being reintroduced,
along with certain customs those outside of Japan would find truly
abhorent.

Have you ever been to Mt. Fuji?  It is a very beautiful site.
Most Japanese will not dare venture anywhere near Mt. Fuji.  Very
superstitious.  It is a place where Japanese go to die.  The old
way.
