Hi Ed,
EG> Terry isn't trying to change the rules, Bruce, he's giving you the
EG> business for the way that YOU change them. Maddux was hands down, the
EG> MOST dominant pitcher that year and the difference between his ERA and
EG> Hill's was 1.76 (3.32 for Hill, 1.56 for Maddux). The difference between
EG> Martinez and Maddux is .53 (1.78 vs 2.31). There's no comparison: the
EG> argument between Maddux and Martinez is far different than Maddux vs
EG> Hill. Hill didn't deserve even ONE vote for the Cy Young. He got 16 wins
EG> because Montreal scored a lot of runs for him that year (BTW, Maddux has
EG> ranked LAST on the Braves in run support EVERY year that he's been with
EG> the team).
Then again, that year, Hill finished second that year to Maddux in the Cy
Young voting, so, obviously other writers agreed with me that Hill's year did
deserve some mention.
Maddux, that year, did get all the first place votes, and, Hill did get most
of the second place votes.
Bruce
