I'm getting pretty tired of this: the offense does it's job, jerking a few
balls out of the park, getting clutch hits, etc. Even the defense: Joey Cora
making awesome play after awesome play, Griffey covering more ground than
anyone alive, Alex Rodriguez just going nuts at short, etc.... But the
relief pitching(if it can be called that)? AWFUL!!!
Tonight it happened again in Texas: a 4-2 lead into the 9th and Slocombe
starts pitching BP to the Rangers. This is the Achilles' Heel that will
ultimately destroy any post-season chances the Mariners have of advancing
beyond the divisionals. Home runs do not win pennants- pitching does, and
the Mariners don't have it. Heck, I'd rather see Ayala on the mound in the
ninth than any of the Jays-turned-Ms. I'd even be willing to give Jay Buhner
a shot on the mound at this point!
(kidding -- sorta....)
Jose Cruz, we're *REALLY* sorry, man! (and I mean that in all of it's
connotations)
