RJT> I have a bunch of those around as well. I don't remember which pin is
RJT> the output, and I don't think the other pin is connected. But yeah,
RJT> they run off the +5v supply. In a conversation recently with somebody
RJT> they mention that these draw a bit more power than using a crystal
RJT> directly, which he considered to be a disadvantage in some
 RJT> applications.

The fact that the frequency is specified to six decimal places
makes me think that they may have some electronic temperature
compensation built in.

Many years ago I read about an oscillator circuit using an
NTC mounted close to the crystal to monitor the temperature, with
feedback to a varactor diode to compensate for the crystal's
natural thermal-versus-frequency variation.

That Saronix oscillator is marked NTC070C which could indicate a
negative temp coefficient of 70 ppm per degree C... or maybe
something quite different

RJT> That 14.311318 MHz figure is pretty common. It was used in the c64,
RJT> and also in the original IBM PC/XT class machines -- that's where that
RJT> "4.77 MHz" came from, dividing it by 3. Divide it by 4
and you get
RJT> the 3.58 MHz colorburst frequency. I have no oscillator modules for
RJT> that frequency but have a whole bunch of crystals...

Dividing by three is unusual...
