subject: Win. defender, Windows Update Stuff, Nice ..

From: "Hrvoje Mesing"

Hi,

some interesting stuff, future will show how MS is really strong holding
users on Windows.

1. Win Defender now uses AU, WU, whatever*U to update itself. So, your
wuauserv needs to be running to update Wind. Def. It can also be pointed to
WSUS server. Also, found that Win Defender is automatically starting the
service, without the question (By MS best practices, any application Should
ask the user of any steps/changes it will do on the system itself) if
wuauserv if set to manual.

2. New "Special" Green Shield popping up On few computers after
logon found a new Green shield popping up telling me it installed some
important update and automatically restarted the computer

Posted on 02/16/2006 {at} 15:28:13 CST by GL We had it happen here through our
WSUS patch system and also on my system at home, XP Pro, set to notify
& download but not install. There was a new icon, a green shield and a
pop-up text message stating that an updated had been installed and rebooted
automagically

Posted on 04/05/2006 {at} 22:10:37 CST by Jay Stuetelberg I am experiencing
this but a bit different, my computer is set just to notify not even
download but it is downloading anyway. My laptop is doing the same. In fact
it is doing it as I type this in. Quite annoying since I am on a very slow
dial-up at the current time. "out in the sticks" Laptop is pro
and desktop is home.

Must say I found this few days ago for the first time and I really cant
belive how, with no problems, they are cutting the flexibillity of updating
the system and applics. step by step - not that they ever had some super
flexibillity anyway.

The way I'm handling few compuers for now:
- wuauserv == Disabled
- script is collecting KB_s and parsing KB update files from WSUS server.
- manually check for NO GOOD updates > deleting them
- qchain the installation of updates to system

The only way I'm sure that there is no MS shit around, well, at least shit
they told us it is shit.
I cant say how many of in example "updates for Outlook Express"
is "patching" some holes in Windows or installing "MS
spyware" This should require full system monitoring and time, but I
hope someone will have www.msfuckups.com to enlighten us with what every
patch is doing.

I bet Vista will hardcore it and obfuscate it more and more > for few years
 > total ownage of users desktops by MS > very nice, everyone in MS have free
ticket to Hawaii.
