June 18, 1997, from the GORACING web site.
The NHRA straightliners, coming off the tumultuous weekend at Columbus,
Ohio, are back in action at Gateway International, near St. Louis, minus
the Jerry Eckman Pro Stock team.
The NHRA suspended Eckman and his crew chief for a minimum of two years,
after their car was found to be using nitrous oxide to enhance performance at
Columbus. As we first reported back in 1995, there have been plenty of rumors
about nitrous use in Pro Stock competition. In this case, a pit area dry-sump
oil tank explosion gave Eckman away when NHRA inspectors found evidence of
nitrous. Bet on the NHRA stepping up their technical
enforcement several notches, starting this weekend.

I wonder if all of the Pro-stocks will slow to 7.1+ et's now that they can't
use nitrous? WJ has run a 6.889 et @ 200.5+ mph in the past month. Was it
Nitrous or was it just gasoline?
