Since around 89% of those incarcerated these days are there due to
addiction to one or more substances, they should do quite well inside
any locked place that keeps them from their drug of choice.  And the
addicts are usually rather intelligent.  Note that I didn't say "smart".
They tend to be unsophisticated at times despite their street knowledge.

Some.  With motivation, they will prefer to work at a place like
Microsoft where million dollar stock options are not uncommon for young
males who do well.
Beats sitting in a jail cell and programming can be confining in itself.
Once had an Apple rep tell me that the way to handle programmers is to
lock them in a room and not let them out until they have completed their
assignment, then take the work away from them so that they cannot keep
tinkering with it.
