From: "Bill Mattox"
That was my inital thought. The problem, however, is that Cuba is NOT
America and that father will not be the one with rights to the child. He is
clearly being threatened (family members back in Cuba, including another
child, have been removed to a special location and have not been seen) and
so he cannot speak freely, even while here. Cuba has also made it clear
that Elian will be seperated from his father upon return and placed in a
re-education facility (i.e., he is going to be brainwashed, big time).
The recent court ruling was to allow the child an opportunity to have as
fair a shot at due process as possible under the circumstances rather than
to simply step on his rights in a hasty, self-serving way, as
Clinton/Castro are obviously inclined to do. A potentially dangerous early
morning raid was not necessary to complete that task, which will have a
definite end-point no matter where the child resides during the process.
The raids only purpose in the interim will be to place the child in a
position where he can be spirited out of the country prior to recieving all
of his court-ordered rights.
But... being above the law, of course, IS the Clinton way.
(BTW, you do understand that the armed raid was conducted without a
warrant, don't you?)
