Sheila King tells Ron Mcdermott about
California Class Size on 06-09-96 09:02:
SK> I hear that class sizes in the high schools hovering around 40 are
SK> very common. I'm not sure what the official state "average class size"
SK> figure is (as you know, when they compute that it is usually much lower
SK> than what is occuring in the classrooms, since they include persons
SK> like counselors and the school nurse, etc., who don't even teach in a
SK> classroom). In the elementary schools, my daugher and son's 2nd and
SK> 4th grade classes each had 31 students this year. It is my impression
SK> that this is about the norm for elementary school class sizes, and I
SK> get the impression from what I read here that most states have lower
SK> elementary class sizes than that.
In Texas, they have rules about student/teacher ratios depending on
the grade level. I think it is 1/22 or something like that in k-4 and
slightly higher after that.. I never had more than 22 or 23 students
when I taught 4th grade.
... Blondes have more fun, but they can't figure out why
