Hi Terry,
TM> I watch all the Braves games, and I certainly haven't gotten that
TM> impression. They mention a number candidates all the time. I've never
TM> even heard them call Neagle a favorite, let alone a "walk over."
That came in a recent game against the Astros when Neagle pitched against
some
one (I forget his name) where the announcers all but said thewinner of that
game will win the Cy Young, since they were the only 2 candidates.
TM> He's allowed a ton of unearned runs, though, whereas Maddux has allowed
TM> only one. That doesn't necessarily mean the Braves have that much of a
TM> better defense, but it does mean that Maddux can pitch around errors.
A
TM> is much more important to a team than ERA.
So, if 2 errors in an inning are maide behind him allowing a run or 2 to
score, it's the pitchers fault?
Pedro has lost most of his games by either 1-0 or 2-1 scores (except the
Philliy game where he go shallacked badly).
It's not only Martinez's low ERA that the writers should look at but also,
thae fact that he's second in strike outs and leads all of baseball in
complete games.
