I can identify with this post. I, too, needed to take a hiatus from
AA a few years ago, and kept in touch via this medium. It took a
major life change, and just plain *fear* that I *could* drink, to get
me back to AA.
Personally, I think the hiatus was exactly what I needed at the time,
and going back was exactly what I needed at *that* time.
I had a bottom line though...if I thought about wanting to drink (not
even wanting to...just thinking about it) I went to a meeting.
Interestingly enough, when I went back to AA, I also went back to
Al-Anon. Since dealing with all these alcoholics in meetings (and in
other areas of my life) was making me crazy, Al-Anon seemed to be the
place to go. Since then, I've found a NEW home group in AA and a
new home group in Al-Anon...I have to admit, I find the combination
incredibly supportive...especially when dealing with "sponsees who
just won't do what I want them to do." ;-)
