Make sure you have Drop RTS During Disk Writes checked in Config ->
Protocol options.
The garbage you saw when you aborted the xfer, was because you had
aborted at your end, but the sending end was still going. This should
only happen briefly, but if it persists, try typing ctrl-x several
times.
