    HELP Needed!
Howdy gang, I found some interesting digital traffic maybe some of
you can help me with???
I finally got my antenna backup and started scanning freqs with my
computer radio control program scancat. I was scanning marine band
freqs and came across some interesting digital communications on
6.221.0 in upper sideband. The digital mode sounds like packet radio.
This is the first packet digital type sound I have ever heard on the
marine bands and 6.221.0 is in the ITU marine voice band channels not
digital. Also this would be a ship voice transmitt frequency.
After logging these digital transmissions on 6.221.0 I call Jim
Overstreet who pops onto Shortwave once in awhile. Jim is a licensed
Ship's Radio Officer as well as a Ham. Jim told me after he tuned this
his rig into 6.221.0 that he belives this is a vessel or vessels using
the new AT&T High Seas Direct microphone which uses packet to send
inforation to help make connects digitally for automatic telephone
calls via HF voice. I agree with him that this is probably what this
his, but I occasionally get a morse code identifer at different times.
Also there is an occasional carrier tone. What is also interesting is
that the packet bursts sometimes are really different in their
duration. If any of you get a chance to check out 6.221.0 please do so
and and let me know what you think??? I have tried to decode the
packet broadcasts with my AEA PK232MBX but so far have been
unsuccessful. I do not yet know what baud speed this is sent out at or
if the packet mode is packet, pactor, g-tor or even clover. If any of
you have an M8000 or Hoka III I would appreciate it if you would
attempt to decode this frequency.
