ROFL! We had that same revelation with Rio, our first Jenday. We tried
for MONTHS to get the bird to say "Rock and roll!" like a local radio
deejay does. We heard "rock-n-roll" in our sleep after a while. But it
was to no effect--the best she did was ONE TIME when she said "Rock and
Rio". We left her with my dad and my teenaged nieces for 7 days while we
went on a vacation. During that time, the kids ALWAYS said "Hey, baby!"
whenever they saw the bird. So did all their hundreds of friends. (We
also had the kids saying "rock-n-roll" to her for 10 minutes twice a day
during this time). We returned to hear Rio saying, plain as day, "Hey,
baby!", which she STILL says regularly as a greeting, to this day.
Why? She learned that "hey baby" meant someone was going to pet her,
give her treats, or pick her up. "Rock-n-roll" had no meaning--it was
just repeated noise. Simple as that. Uh DUH, Kathy---it took about 8
months for us to figure that one out!
