| subject: | Workstation service |
From: "David B" Yes, kids, I'm still alive and well, and living in suburban Atlanta. Okay, problem. My fiance has a good friend who thinks she is sharp technically. The woman is a lawyer; I'll skip my opinion of her and just say I don't miss her when she's gone. Anyway, she came by the other night and wanted help on a case, and Melanie spent all night helping her organize papers and such. Somewhere in the process of this, the woman decided to install some kind of VPN and in general massively hosed the setup on Melanie's laptop. Now, it doesn't want to talk to the Netgear 614 wireless router, much less get to the internet. One thing I see is that not only is the workstation service not started, it isn't even available to start. This prevents me from doing some of the things I need to do. One problem we also have is I can't simply delete the wireless connection and recreate it because the person who set this up for her before we met password protected the router- not a bad thing to do, of course, but now no one knows the actual password, much less the internet service password and ID. But that isn't what I need help for at the moment. What the heck do I do to get Workstation Service into the mix?
