SK>Anyhoooo....this past week I presented a little show for the dept.
  >demonstrating e-mail, Usenet newsgroups, and the Web. Two of our most
  >computer phobic teachers have approached me about teaching them
  >individually at some point this summer how to use the machine to access
  >these resources, so I considered that a minor victory.
The minor victories are often those that win the war in the end. I have
been toying with computers since 1980. Today I own a machine that far
surpasses my knowledge base just ot use the programs I own to their
fullest extent. Really have not even scratched the surface and I have a
real interest in the computer. I can definitely understand the problem
for those just now getting into the use of computers.
SK>Now, this teacher IS afraid of the darn things, but recognizes there is
  >value to them and that they are here to stay and that she needs to do
  >something about it. What she needs is support, time and training. The
  >system doesn't make it real easy for teachers to get this kind of help.
  >Especially teachers who are more afraid of the machines.
Support time and training is a very good definition of what needs to be
done. Going it on your own can be pretty tough as many of us can
attest. Right. :) Even my sons think nothing of taking the computer
apart and upgrading components now. Hopefully those in management will
see the need for spending some time and money in teaching teachers about
computer use, pro and con.
