subject: Writing to blank CD-R fails in endless loop

From: "Gregg N"

I am having a problem with my CD burner.

I can write to a CD-R that already contains some data, but I can't write to
a brand new one.

If I try, using either the built-in XP facility or Nero, the drive enters
an endless spinup/spindown cycle with head-seeking sounds, with the burn
LED on. I usually have to reset the computer to get out of this state.

At first I thought it was a bad CD-R, but I tried several and even bought a
new spindle of a different brand. This used to work.

Any ideas?

Gregg
