The only thing solid state that I don't trust are electrolytic
capacitors. Whenever there is a possibility to get by without them in
a circuit, this increases reliability by a large margin. I'd rather
increase the impedance and use a smaller cap than use an electro but
sometimes one can't around it short of using gyrators, capacitance
multipliers, and negative something or other. Making the circuit more
complex however introduces a greater probability of failure. The most
reliable circuit is the simplest that does the job while using the
least parts that can break.
