subject: Re: Option to install updates at shutdown

From: "Antti Kurenniemi"

Maybe I'm old-fasioned, but I like to check out what is installed on my
system before accepting them. I've only had very few problems with WU ever,
but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to just blindly accept everything.

Oh, and I am (and was) logged in as Administrator. Usually I get the shield
in the system tray, but this one time it was not there. Maybe something's
funny with that particular update batch...

One more reason to configure the machine to automatically update at 3:00
AM or similar.

Does a non-admin get the install on shutdown option if the admin has no
configured automatic updates or even then?

That's only if you are logged on as an administrator. If you are not
logged in as an administrator, there is no yellow shield in the tray.
There should be. The only notification you get that there are updates
waiting is if you happen to select shut down. Not even the log out dialog
indicates there is something waiting. If you don't routinely shutdown
your computer, it is possible to go days without realizing there is
  something waiting.
