CS> Chang Mai is supposed to be very nice.
BF> Everyone who have been there says so.
CS> Malasia as well. Singapore, I find boring and expensive.
BF> Oh, so we shouldn't go there?
Well, It depends on what you are looking for. I've been told that 'Little
¨India' is more my style so next time I'll try there. Mostly Singapore is
very ¨clean, good mass transit, expensive, very 'western' feel. Shopping
centers are ¨like stateside ones (big stores, brand names, brand name
prices). They have a ¨zoo but it's nothing all that great (other places
are better, England has a ¨better one for example by far).
If you want a pretend trip to Asia, with no lack of western comfort, and do
not ¨care about prices, Singapore is nice. Good medical facilities.
Contrast this with Hong Kong. Hong Kong has it all. Openair markets,
range of ¨fancy shops to sidewalk stalls, good medical, fancy places with
prices same as ¨Singapore and places with just simple atmosphere and
fantastic food at great ¨prices. Hop over to China from there. Much much
more to do and experience. ¨Cleaner than most of Thailand but not to
Singapore 'eat off the sidewalk' ¨standards (which I dont care about as
long as i can safely walk around without ¨stepping in something gross and
Hong Kong is just fine).
If the price is the same or close, Hong Kong will be much more fun. This
is ¨just my own opinion from globe trotting about here in Asia though.
CS> never pay money to visit there.
BF> Perhaps it's better to go to Malasia then.
Ohh I'd love to go there! I havent yet and may never get to before we
leave. ¨I hear from a friend (Glenn in COOKING) that it's a great place!
BF> Who uses a floppy today.....except you? USB memory you know.
Grin, dinosaur here, yes. I export my QWK packets on the ship from email
to a ¨floopy then put them in the laptop and reply, then floppy back the
reply ¨packet. I may try re-writable CD's if I can use the right machines
at work ¨that can burn them to get around this.
CS> Dunno but it's not endemic to just USA folks. I've had some really
CS> miserable times with Michiel who was just as bad. Hasnt happened
CS> years though since we've gotten used to one another.
BF> OK, haven't seen him like that.
Grin, you havent been on the other side of a 'discussion' with him. Thats
why ¨you may not notice it. He doesnt 'cuss' but he can be extremely
persistant and ¨likes to take a portion of something said and make it sound
otherwise than ¨intended origionally and well.... it goes on from there.
It's ok though. He ¨and I seldom have any real problems. We learned to
'agree to disagree' ¨eventually.
BF> There is a little stubborn devil in us all, eh......
Yup!
Oh, back in. A typhoon drove us back to Sasebo to wait it out. It's well
¨north of us (where we were supposed to be). I'm only in for a few days.
