Hi, James! Recently you wrote in a message to Ardith Hinton:
AH> As in "Physical Terrorist"? I can relate to that. :-))
JB> Pretty informative, alas. One, maybe two "instructors"
JB> weren't worth spit to me, but *all* others revealed massive
JB> information about my situation.
Yes, I've also found certain PT's more helpful than others... but
for me at least the information component is very significant. You're
dealing with some rather unusual circumstances, just as we are. And unless
you understand a lot more about anatomy & physiology than yours truly
you may need a bit of help from others who do! Many people seem to be
hoping for a magic bullet, and feel disappointed when they don't get
instant results from physiotherapy. I find if I neglect my shoulder
exercises that they are doing some good. I've noticed an improvement since
a physio showed me a better way of lifting Her Nibs too. :-)
JB> This time, we determined my mechanics were as good as
JB> can be expected,
I guess that's about where I'm at. My left shoulder still
reminds me it's there, and I need to be a bit cautious about how I use it.
But I have the same range of motion I have in my right shoulder now &
it doesn't hurt as much.
JB> and I have two new exercises; one to aggravate the
JB> nerve,
To teach your brain how to interpret signals from the nerve... as
one does with a person who has had a stroke... or to get to a point where
the brain learns to ignore the sensation to some degree because it's always
present? I'm a bit out of my depth here, but I can relate to either in
various ways.... :-)
JB> and another to target a muscle I had been ignoring.
Yes... I suspect many of us do in the course of our daily
activities. I used to chuckle about folks who would pay $$$ for gym
memberships while I was carrying laundry up & down stairs, grovelling
on the floor taking Nora's splint off or putting it on, etc. But somebody
pointed out to me that women often use the muscles at the *front* of the
shoulder for such tasks, while the muscles at the *back* of the shoulder
tend to suffer from neglect. Oops! Mea culpa. ;-)
JB> Get this... I just fished out two cylindrical items that
JB> fell into the clothes dryer lint filter receptacle.
You forgot to check your pockets before washing your jeans, or
missed a couple of dimes?? Been there, done that... [wry grin].
JB> (I'm sure I missed a hyphen or two there. ;-)
Looks okay to me! Another example, from my linguistics
instructor... "cottage cheese salad recipe book". We often
string nouns together just as the Germans do, but in most cases we retain
the spacing between the words.... :-))
JB> I tried rolling the dryer - en masse - onto its top
Of course. Although some part of your body might hurt like h*ll
as a result, you are determined not to let it get in the way of what you
want to do. Reminds me of a story my best female friend from high school
told Dallas & me a few years ago. She'd had quite enough of her washer
or dryer... I forget which now... but her husband was away on a business
trip. So she somehow muscled the thing up the basement stairs & into
the back yard all by herself. I'm inclined to react the same way. That
may be one reason I like both of you... [chuckle].
JB> in hopes the item (I was only expecting one.) would roll
JB> out,
Seek & ye shall find! You may find what you were looking for earlier
... that's how it generally works for me. But sometimes I get a bonus.... :-)
