Agreed. They can leech 'til the cows come home, or they run out of
time, whichever comes first.
But being a user on my system implies that they agree to follow my
rules, and read the system notices, or else they'll have NO clue
about what's going on anyway.

I know I feel sorry for new callers on MY system, but I tell them
up front it's an involved process and it takes time, and they'll
never have to do it again. And most deal with it.
As far as logging in as a regular caller, it also takes a bit of
time, but it's not bad.
And for people I know or work with -the users the system is specifically
made for- I have set express keys which dump them right at the menu
from the welcome screen.

Do what you have to, of course!

Put in a line of text which says something like "....please wait"
You could even space it out like this:
[pause].[pause].[pause].[pause].[pause]please wait[pause][pause]
Press Enter to continue

There are a whole ton of tricks, but that's what you get for using
an extremely flexible BBS software. :)
Ask in the echo and someone will probably be able to help -or tell
you when it can't be done. That's kinda rare, thankfully.
