Matt,
I think your responses are not cohesive and pertinent.
Let me paraphrase what I _believe_ was your original point, and you
correct me if I misunderstood you. Your original point was that:
Time spent in high school on subjects other than basic literacy and math
were essentially a waste of time.
Yes or no: was that your point?
My counterpoint was that it is NOT a waste of time.
As to whether or not students flunk out in college due to lack of
history skills or whatever, that is another discussion altogether, and
one for which you can only give your annecdotal evidence or gut
feelings. You have no corroborating data to back up your point. (Or do
you? Please cite your source. I have some time this summer to visit
the library.)
-> Freshman-level math courses are typically "bottleneck" courses
-> where
-> most of those who will flunk out first run into problems.
Be that as it may, it doesn't prove that non-math courses in high school
are a waste of time.
-> Surely you don't contend that getting an "A" in phys. ed. makes a
-> kid
-> "ready to handle higher level academic studies"?
Another non sequitur from Matt. Just stick words in my mouth, Matt.
Sorry. I have to try ignoring you again.
Sheila
