Sheila King On (15 Jun 96) was overheard to say to Tom Cotton
Hi Sheila...
SK> Now, this teacher IS afraid of the darn things, but recognizes there
SK> is value to them and that they are here to stay and that she needs to
SK> do something about it. What she needs is support, time and training.
SK> The system doesn't make it real easy for teachers to get this kind of
SK> help. Especially teachers who are more afraid of the machines.
Despite my less than wonderful experience with a particular school
and particular admins this (now) past school year I, and a dozen or
so others, are still very VOCALLY advocating for increased use of
computer technology in the classroom at all grade levels. Two or
three of us attend every school board meeting and manage to get on
the speakers list. We are currently pushing for paid release time
and paid training for elementary teachers who need to learn how to
integrate the existing machines into their routines. We have an
almost totally new board.. 9 of 11 having been forced to resign or
face malfeasance charges and a new superintendent.. the previous one
having resigned and accepted a new position several states away when
the stuff started to hit the fan...he was forced out of that when he
was subpoenaed to return for a grand jury inquiry... I digress (as
usual 8-) ) anyway we are having lots of "fun" _educating_ the new
board members.. we shall see what changes we can effect but it is
agonizingly slow... just too stubborn to give up I guess..
