As to "eradicating religion," among progressives, that's a damn lie.

It's the theocratic right-wing Christians that want our government to keep
on shoving mandatory Christian rites among everyone.

One example: Mandating the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, as it is now.
With that "under God" in it, that was stuck into it during McCarthyism in
1954.

Don't forget groups that continue to try to shove their religious dogma
into science classrooms, even though they have jack shit to actually back
up their suppositions.
