-> Hi, Snow Lady! Hey Bob...wanna see some? Go to http://www3.photosig.com/viewphoto.php?id=617168 and http://www3.photosig.com/viewphoto.php?id=618650 -> Well, pictures surely play their part. The average reader looks at every -> picture but often only skims headlines to many of the stories. Photos and -> ads break up the sea of printed characters to make it more appealing to -> read. Otherwise, a page of pure print looks daunting and portends to be a -> laborious task to read. Psychology! Yep, and I have a thing called Read Please on my computer for when I actually run a cross a full screen of print. I found that even if I had searched for it, I don't want to read all that solid print. A few pictures make a world of difference in any media. :) -> -> Few of us buy the paper just for the news -> because most days there really isn't much of importance to make it -> worthwhile reading. Besides, it's cheaper to read it online :) I read one of the Ottawa papers online in the morning, and the Brockville paper online in the afternoon. It amazes me that they can stay in business with so many people doing that. We don't bother with the ads, you know. More want to know the grocery prices or what's on sale -> at the furniture store, hobby shop, etc., All that stuff comes in the EMC....Extra Market Coverage....a free publication with all the flyers included. Buying a newspaper isn't going to help me with that stuff, unless I'm planning to go to the city. -> > It told them that without news, nobody would bother -> > buying it, so the ads wouldn't be seen anyway. -> -> At first blush it seems you've discovered another catch 22, but it really -> isn't. The publisher told you the truth. The occasional big news story is -> icing on the cake! If you get into the issues behind the scenes you might -> find that more people buy their paper for the movie and/or TV listings than -> for its world news value. TV today may provide more of the news impact but -> it's shallow on filling in the details. That's where the local newspaper -> shines. Wrong again. There are not tv listings in any of the local papers. My town, and each town 12 miles in either direction, all have different cable companies. We use the TV guide here for that. There may be movie listings in one of those papers, but I have not read that one in so many years, I can't remember. Local papers are all about local stuff. Not big news, perhaps, but news we locals are interested in anyway. Big news this week is that yet another snowmobiler has gone through the ice and drowned. Pictures of the hole are included. I think I'd prefer to read the garden news at this point.... -> > It was more like 5 rolls of film and that was just for one event. Budget -> > or not, that's excessive. -> -> OKay, I concede. Five bucks instead of just one would make a difference! -> O:-) You aren't thinking of all the time to develop, and choose what to use. The lab technician probably broke his budget that week -> -> > But hey, the editor can't say he had nothing to choose from, eh. -> -> Such things happen with lack of organization. Far more -> than the cost of film, if those were staff people the salaries of three, -> when one would do, would qualify as excessive. If all were stringers, -> that's another story. We were all salaried people.....but it was a fixed salary, as far as I know. I certainly got nothing extra for doing photo work for them. -> > -> -> there is NO chance I'd slice on you but I will pull your chain! Don't I know it!!! -> -> Kidding aside, I'm happy that something brought you to all of us, Karen, -> because you are a joy to the group. Some would disagree Bob, but they don't call me Yabut for nothing....bring them on! -> --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: FONiX Info Systems * Berkshire UK * www.fonix.org (2:252/171) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 252/171 140/1 106/2000 1 379/1 633/267 |
