TW>work with Windows 95. What version should I use?
1) Most of the time, ANSI graphics in terminal programs don't require
DEVICE=ANSI.SYS in CONFIG.SYS-- it is unfortunate that the same name is
used for two very different uses... try simply removing the offending line
from CONFIG.SYS-- the terminal software may work in any event.
2) Check for the WIN95 version of ANSI.SYS (if you really need to load
this)... it would be in your \WINDOWS\COMMAND folder, along with the rest
of the W95-DOS files. If you are trying to load your C:\DOS version, you'll
get the 'Incorrect DOS Version' error message.
If you don't find ANSI.SYS in \WINDOWS\COMMAND, check on your W95 CD for an
OLDMSDOS folder... it will have a bunch of other DOS utilities that aren't
installed by default, along with an INSTSUPL.BAT file (or some such name).
To install them, run the batch file-- do not simply copy them into
\WINDOWS\COMMAND. The batch file properly updates SETVER to allow them to
run.
3) If the terminal programs you're referring to are Windows programs, they
probably do not need ANSI.SYS, but DO need you to choose a screen font that
includes the BBS-ANSI character set-- i.e. the PC Linedraw characters.
Win95 comes with a Terminal font for that purpose, and you'll find a couple
of truetype Ariel fonts in a MINITEL folder on the W95 CD that can be used.
