Bob Anderson On (12 Jun 96) was overheard to say to All
 BA> Hi everyone,
 Hi Bob (Great name BTW)
BA> ( a process thing, please add any thoughts )
 Well since you asked...
BA> This is only a draft and .... well, you know
 Understand..
 BA> Systems
BA> Students should be able to demonstrate how a computer system
 BA> operates:
BA> 1 - using responsible behavior in the handling of
 BA> hardware and software
BA> 2 - using computer terminology (bit, byte, RAM, ROM,
BA> monitor, disk drive, cpu, clockspeed, keyboard, mouse, floppy
BA> drive, cache, harddrive, cdrom drive, hardware, software,
 BA> printer.
It does not appear to me that either of these objectives match the
goal of "demonstrate how ..."; it also doesn't appear that #1 has any
 relationship to #2.
BA> Students should be able to use Mac, DOS and Windows computer
 BA> environments:
I agree they should be able to use any OS they encounter, however, is
this realistic? Do you have machines with all these OS's available
in a lab setting where they can be taught? Is there anyone available
with the expertise to teach them all? A little refining in
terminology is also needed Macintosh vs Mac; MSDOS vs DOS and
whatever flavor of windoze you have. "Windows" is too vague.
BA> 1 - using the basic dos commands (copy, format, cd, md
BA> ect) in the correct syntax to set up and use a variety of
BA> software, within the structure of the path .
Where are the Macintosh and windows requirements for this...
what about software that comes with a "setup" or "install" feature?
BA> 2 - use filenames and extentions to recognize and create
BA> executables , texts, pictures, letters , ect
except for the "off limits" msdos extensions just about anything can
be used for an extension after the "."; Text, picture, letters (just
another text file) and etc have to be called from the executable
 program they were created in.
 BA> 3 - using compression/decompression commands (pkzip ect)
BA> to maximize the use of disk space and to access
 BA> shareware/freeware software.
I don't see any relationship between using any compression program
and accessing share/freeware unless you are keeping these things on
your drives in compressed form and having to decompress them each
time they are used...whew...easier to get a bigger HD and a lot less
 frustrating..
 BA> Keyboarding
WHO came up with this term.. )-8
BA> Students continue the skill development of typing,
BA> emphasizing the use of alphabetic and numeric keys with
 BA> increasing speed and accuracy.
What about the other 55+ keys?
 BA> 1 - demonstrate correct technique ( posture, fingering ect )
BA> 2 - properly use all alphabetic and numeric keys
BA> 3 - Use correct spacing after punctuation
BA> 4 - recognize and correct typographical errors
#3 & #4 do not seem to be _directly_ related to the goal - more LA
 than computer use related..
BA> 5 - complete a timed test with typing speed equal to or
BA> greater than their handwriting speed.
Lost me on this one...I can type a WHOLE lot faster than I can write
something in long hand with the plus that it is legible ..
