subject: Solder vs. `sodder`

Hello Alexander,

BF>>> Yees Merriam-Webster. What about the proper British
 BF>>> 'sol-der'?

RM>> There's no telling. Being the bastard child of several languages
RM>> American-style English never suprises me that pronunciations
 RM>> can differ so much.

ak> You can say, "Madonna is a great singer."
ak> And it sounds equally with "Madonna is a great sinner." ;-)

I met her, in person, at Molly's Bar in New Orleans.
She had finished giving a performance at the Superdome
and decided to unwind in the French Quarter afterwards.
She was much younger then, being the mid-1980s. Not
wanting to be recognized, she was wearing a trenchcoat,
dark shades, and a fedora. I would have loved to have
been able to enjoy a nice conversation (or something
more) with her, but two beefy bodyguards made sure
that would not be possible.

Molly's Bar is a dive of a place, located across the
steet from Caf‚ du Monde. For whatever reason, or for
no reason at all, many celebrities choose to get a drink
at Molly's, regardless of time of day (or night). So,
if ever you are on holiday and choose to visit the city
that care forgot, do remember to stop by for a drink
at Molly's. You never know who you might chance to meet.
