| subject: | Psycho... was - Physio.. |
On or about 11-03-09 14:12, Ardith Hinton allegedly uttered "Physio... 1A." to James Bradley: AH> In my experience a lot of "junque" (stuff which is too good AH> to throw out, but which I don't quite know what to do with) is AH> easier to discard after a period of time has elapsed. Maybe I was foreshadowing this message but the day it arrived, I was vacuuming my front room for the first time in a long time. I had to shuffle the deck a bit to do so. AH> Things got away on me when Nora required intensive AH> parenting. I guess things got away on you when a rough AH> patch in your life made it imperative to find a reason to AH> get out of bed. I won't say "in the morning" because I AH> know you're a musician, and I'm a night person too! We Ya... I don't know what I am going to use for motivation when the cat is no longer pestering me to go outside. AH> both did what we had to do back then... but now we're left AH> with another daunting task. I'm banking on a decade to sorting. Sadly, I use a new piece of equipment, furniture, or flooring material to motivate me to clear out a space for it. I *was* planning to load a shipping container with my good stuff, and "dumpster" the rest when I subcontracted a new structure on an acreage. (Boy, would this be a great time to move "up"!) Now that I have to modify the plan, I have to figure out a way to heave the crap, liquidate the sell-able, and erect the keepers in my alloted space. Now that I don't have a dream destination, I have a target room dedicated to shelving that I hope can provide staging while the rest gets organized around it. AH> Years ago we had folks in this echo with a wide variety of AH> problems, many of whom participated in various "recovery" AH> echoes. I read these echoes in order to gain understanding AH> of where they were coming from & saw that they were on more AH> or less the same path as Bernie Siegel's "Exceptional AH> Cancer Patients". Whether it's mental/emotional baggage, or AH> an overabundance of physical objects, you didn't accumulate it AH> overnight & you're doing whatever you can one day at a time. Breaking AH> tasks into smaller segments does seem to help. The experts AH> say we should focus on a single room before tackling the AH> next, but I've yet to hear from one who takes into account AH> (for example) our need to store OT/PT equipment where Nora AH> & her therapists can easily get at it. Maybe a square foot AH> of space at a time is more realistic as long as *you* can AH> see you've made some progress. At the risk of sounding like a Wayne Dyer promotion, I've never suffered with not having a "plan of attack". Now I need to find ever-more creative ways to attack the plan. Speaking of self help, If you've never heard of Drew Pinsky, try to be in front of the Much More Music channel Sunday - coming. They are debuting a new series of his on addiction then. I watched with much admiration his previous series, so I doubt this one will disappoint anyone willing to drop his own baggage at the door. AH> A week or so ago I saw an article about an expert I might be AH> able to get along with, anyway. He induced the reporter to tidy AH> stacks of papers which she keeps on the floor between her AH> own desk & that of a photographer. (She has no filing AH> cabinet & she uses a chronological method of sorting. I AH> can relate!) Unlike many such people, this fellow didn't AH> pressure her to throw out anything. After devoting a whole AH> afternoon to the project she commented "The photographer AH> didn't notice." I reckon it doesn't matter to him either AH> way. She may be more appreciative of that when some time AH> has gone by & she has slipped back into her old habits. AH> But the thing is, you have to do it for yourself. And if AH> you have other priorities from time to time... I've never AH> heard anybody say at a funeral that they'd cheerfully eat AH> off the floor at So-and-So's house or that the place was so AH> neat & tidy they were afraid to touch anything. IMHO they AH> will remember that you always had time for the AH> neighbourhood kids... that you shovelled their sidewalks AH> when others didn't seem to care... and that you made them AH> laugh. ;-) How we modify our goals, eh? Going from building an energy smart retirement cottage, I now hope not to leave my executor with too much of a headache. Right now, I have a "home theater" receiver on the shelf that is worth my effort to implement, so you might not hear much from me for the next while. ...
