Greg may have been referring to FDR's first speech to the Congress,
in which he stated "You have nothing to fear but fear itself" -
which summarized what his entire speech was about, the desperate
economic times the US (and the world) was going through.

The very first thing that FDR did when he took office was declare
a bank holiday.  What I mean by that was FDR closed all the banks.
For ten days.  One third of those banks were closed permanently.

This had nothing to do with communism, or any other ideology.
It was about economic necessity.  One does not have to go that
far back to find examples of the fundamental immorality of the
market economy.  Just go back to the economic crash of 2008.

Certainly nobody can blame communism (or socialism) for that one.

FDR saved the US from itself by injecting the economy with
a stimulus that he knew would be sure to work.  As you know,
you have to spend money to make money.  Preferably somebody
else's money.  And then, once you get it started, keep the
ball rolling.
