If you loosen up the term "online software and services" a bit to
include not only server-based software and services, but software and
services that are running on a local client yet not under control of the
owner/user of that client; Windows Genuine Disadvantage starts to make more
sense from a Microsoft viewpoint.

Is Microsoft becoming more aggressive about staking a property claim on all
the Windows PCs of the world and usurping that property for the purpose of
extending their current online software and service offerings?  Is
Microsoft moving towards creating a virtual machine running their software,
a VM over which the owner/user of the PC has no control beyond the possible
election to use the power switch of the PC?
