-> I don't think it's radar at all. They've been using such devices for
-> a few years to find people trapped in collapsed buildings.
I'll concede that I'm wrong. The TV reporter, though, made it out as if it
were something brand new. I got the impression that it wasn't a listening
device, i. e., a super-sensitive microphone, because as the developer, a
fellow named McEwan (my guess at the spelling), demonstrated its ability to
detect cardiac rhythm on the other side of a concrete slab, both he and the
reporter were conversing. A high-gain microphone would have blown out from
the SPL of the conversation relative to the SPL of the heartbeat. My
guess/theory was that the bounced back signal returning to the device had
been modulated by the cardiac rhythm. I know I'm asking for trouble, because
surely someone knowledgeable will read this and point out what an idiot I am.
At least that way, I'll know how this thing works. It's an ill wind that
blows no good, right?
Yours, Blair
