I have been a fairly rabid fan of Trek for years. IMHO, someone
who is uptight enough to insist on "Trekker" is defining themselves as
a "Trekkie"
The kind of person to whom Shatner said "Get A Life!" was how a
nerd, geek, etc, was described to me.
Once, swear to Ghod, I was at a con, wearing thick glasses and
my brand new "underoos" Star Trek t-shirt, and William Shatner was
speaking. He suckered me into trying to overexplain something and I
became the very model of someone who should "get a life".
Since then I have gone around and around with people who dislike
these "geeks" but claim that I am different.
I am not different. I *am* a Star Trek Geek. Period. All
problems with this reside in someone else. I am comfortable with who I
am and what I like.
Although sometimes I want to go get a set of those ugly rubber
"Spock" ears and wear them with a safety pin through them.
"Yeah, I'm a geek. YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT!?!"
Sort of a Punk/Geek groove.
But it's hard to stay that angry about it for very long, and I'm
not too sure I could back up the attitude if someone called my bluff...
Oh well. I have to sneer at people who have this problem with
"geeks". If they have a problem with me, then they have a *big*
problem, 'cause I'm not going to stop and I'm not going to go away.
Ich Bin Ein Geek, Baby. Get over it.
And that's my whole attitude on the subject.
Note, Maureen I am not speaking directly at *you*. You haven't
told me to "get a life" or acted hostile to me at all. I am just
describing my opinion and attitude on the subject about which you were
speaking.
Hi, Maureen! How are you. Everything's fine, down here...
