Not relevant at present: this discussion is about an RPi 3B running a 64
bit OS NOW.
As for the future, anything that can be compiled now on both 32 bit and
64bit systems, like code I'm writing now and have been for the last 10
years, can simply be recompiled in 5 years time on systems with 64 bit or
more addressing.

Indeed, the lesson is obvious: don't design or write anything that
depends on the limitations of current systems, which primarily means not
writing in anything lower-level than C - and certainly not in assembler.
