As a recent buyer of the Imodem, I'll have to testify, that in my
opinion, it is more than that, I call it the "v.everything.plus.some". It
does it all.
On the plus side, the imodem has provided both my external v.everything
as well as the imodem better analog connects and transfer times (my
binkley.log shows 288+ being the norm) but as well has provided for like
equiped systems out in fidonetland, v90 and x2 connections and transfer
rates. Unheard of in my neck of the woods before I got the digital line.
On the minus side, there are a number of nodes in my network that have
Courier v.everythings at the latest bios revision that fall through to 2400
baud of all things. (on a regular basis) Also from a v90 host prospective, it
does not live up to its promise. While I DO get on average a better transfer
rate than my analog Courier, 500KBPS on average better is not worth the cost
of v90 or even ISDN for that matter.
People are connecting with my system at 49.9 and getting a 38xxCPS
transfer rate! (they have courier v.everythings on their end) While better
than ANALOG, it clearly does not live up to the 56K or even 53K promise of x2
or v90.
While I'm happy with my overall purchace of USR/3Com equipment and it has
performed well over the years (my first v.everything bit the dust last week),
the claims of their marketing folk are in my opinion are outlandish. I've
still have to work out ISDN connections with my ISP and realise ISDN speeds.
THis is after a month of calling LD to USR's test site.

If you want better connect rates, get a Courier Imodem, the only modem of
its kind that will host v90 and x2 connections. Not only will you get some
great digital connections, all your analog conncetions off your analog port
are going to be better as well!!!
