* EleBBS Support List

Hi Lance,

> Does it do Hayes emulation though ?

NetModem Server does not support modem emulation. It is designed to
accept incoming telnet connections from the NetModem Client, and passes
those connections to either serial devices or physical modems connected
to the NetModem Server PC.

NetModem Client is a free Windows virtual COM port redirector, which is
basically a stripped down version of NetSerial but without the Virtual Modem
feature. It's designed to be used only with the NetModem Server, which is
a commercial product designed to share real modems over a network.

Both NetModem Client and Server support either standard Telnet, or an
enhanced version of Telnet known as COM Port Control (RFC-2217) which
allows the Client to monitor and control the serial signal states on the
remote
modems such as RTS,CTS,DSR,DTC, DTR etc.

So NetModem Server would not be a drop-in replacment for Leif's BBS
Server since any AT commands that are sent to the serial ports would not
be filtered out, and there would not be any RING or CONNECT messages
sent to the BBS when a telnet caller connects. Also the BBS would not be
able to use +++ to force command state and drop a connection.

If you happen to find any tricks to get around these issues let me know, and
I could hook you up with a free registration, but adding the above features
to NetModem Server would probally not be worth the effort.

My NetSerial software does the hayes modem emulation, but this program
is only a Virtual COM port redirector and does not communicate with real
serial ports, so it would only work if the BBS was located on a Windows PC,
in which case NetSerial could be used as a stand alone BBS Telnet Server
for any DOS based BBS (and also works with EleBBS/Win32).

Regards, Mike
