I sort of thought of that.  The laptop seems to suffer similarly whether
it's net-connected or not.  I don't see much flashing of the switch's
lights. (Windows seems to have quieted down in that respect since NT; you
can actually tell when something's snooping.)

I just hate the packet shim you have to install to get Ethereal, et. al. to
work.  It's among the most nuclear drivers I've seen. Come to think of it,
with the stack changes in SP2, can Ethereal even work???
