KA>I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder by one shrink, (nice
KA>catch-all for "she's messed up but we're not sure how") bipolar by
nother,
KA>and when I went back to the one that decided I was bipolar with the idea
f
KA>being evaluated for ADHD, I walked out fifteen minutes later with a
KA>prescription. This disturbed me to no end.
Bipolar disease is inherited. There are five genetic codes found in
European research associated with this disease. And three of those five
have also, in European research, been associated with alcoholism.
KA>I found a shrink who actually did an evaluation and gave me several pages
of
KA>techniques designed to cope with ADHD as well as instructions to keep him
KA>updated on how it was working for me and an appointment for the following
KA>week. Despite his thoroughness, he told me that he didn't have a lot of
KA>experience with ADHD patients and that he would want to keep in close
ouch
KA>so
KA>he could learn from my experiences with treatment and non-pharmaceutical
KA>techniques.
Strange. That is how chemical dependency counselors, the better ones,
work.
Complete history including that of physical disease, food allergies, and
mental and emotional problems in the family. Family health for at least
three generations.
Otherwise, how in hades can a diagnosis be made except by P.E.T. scan or
some other physical test?
